Bus Station Glow

sunlight orange glow on Preston Bus Station

Preston Bus Station Glow

Unseasonably warm here when I took this, 19C before the sunrise, and the sky has a gentle glow in the morning.  Not your dramatic sunrise, far from it, the sun rises these days very quietly.  Soft orange light for no more than 15 minutes, then its gone, and I’m there wandering round with my camera wondering why everything looks so grey all of a sudden.

Captured this just before the best of the light went, reflecting off the side of Preston Bus Station.  With the car park ramps acting as a natural frame I thought this one worked best in a square format.  Since I’ve got the 50mm lens I’ve found that square seems to suit more often – well I guess it was hardly likely to work with a wide angle was it.   Taken at 1600 ISO, the most my old Canon 400D will push to, so its a pretty noisy image.  I usually make these into monochrome shots, but that would take away the whole focus of the image, so not this time.  I’ve not done anything to hide the noise, its there, no fancy software trying to pretend, I like it just as it is.

Great capture of one of those brief mysterious moments of unexpected light-

  2. Agree with poster above. This is a really cool “ordinary” image — of an ordinary moment that feels special. Hope that makes sense. . . and if it doesn’t, no worries 🙂

  3. Thanks for the comments guys, its the light that matters, if it happens to shine on something ordinary, then it’s a special moment, and makes the ordinary special.

  4. gorgeous light! amazing how such mundane buildings around us can be utterly transformed during the golden hour

Let me know what you're thinking.........
